Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. It’s not hard to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
