Use Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
