Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a few eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
