Foods That Make You Happy
A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat some eggs to cheer up!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
