Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. And now you know it can help you be happier too!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
