Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
