Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods really do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are terrific at battling depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you want to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
