  1. Get Main ingredients
  2. Take 3 cup rice
  3. Prepare 1/2 cup toor dal
  4. Prepare 1/2 cup moong dal
  5. Take 1/2 cup split green moong dal
  6. Get 2 medium sized onions chopped
  7. Get 2 medium sized potatoes chopped
  8. Get 2 carrots chopped
  9. Take 1/2 cup fresh pigeon peas
  10. Make ready 2 green chillies finely chopped
  11. Get For tempering
  12. Prepare 2 tbsp oil
  13. Get 2 tbsp ghee
  14. Take 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  15. Get 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  16. Take 1 bay leaf
  17. Take 2 cinnamon sticks
  18. Take Dry spices
  19. Prepare to taste Salt
  20. Make ready 2 tsp red chilli powder
  21. Take 1 tsp turmeric powder
  22. Make ready 1 tbsp khichdi masala

Steps to make Masala Khichdi:
  1. In a pressure pan add oil and ghee for tempering. Switch on the gas and the add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaf and cinnamon sticks.
  2. While the tempering is getting heated, in a bowl take rice and all the dals. Wash them properly with water 3-4 times. Add some water and keep it aside.
  3. When mustard seeds crackles add chopped onions and let them cook till they turn pinkish.
  4. Now add all the dry spices to the pan and cook for a minute.
  5. Add all the remaining vegetables and some water and cook for a minute.
  6. Finally add the washed dals and rice to the pan with enough water. Close the pressure pan and cook it for two whistles on high flame then simmer the gas and then leave it for 10 minutes and switch off the gas.
  7. After the pan cools down serve the ready masala khichdi garnished with spring onions and served with kadhi.
