Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to learn, are terrific at combating depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!
