Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full as well which can really help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
