Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are great at combating depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know it can help improve your mood as well!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
