Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. And now you know it can help improve your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Go with these hints instead!
