Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
