Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. A number of foods honestly do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for improving your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
