Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. A number of foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Some grains are really wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
