Foods That Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
