Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
A lot of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to keep away from them. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be a real downer! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
