Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are terrific at battling depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating some eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
