Foods That Can Make You Happy
For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
