Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to avoid them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood too!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
