Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are fantastic at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try several of these instead!
