Foods That Make You Happy
Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should avoid them. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nourishing and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
