Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body.
