Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help raise your mood as well!
See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
