Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat a few eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood too!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
