Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we ought to keep away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do improve your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
