Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that it can help raise your mood also!
