Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at beating back depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Go with these suggestions instead!
