Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
