Foods That Can Make You Happy
Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
If you wish to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Test out these hints instead!
