Foods That Make You Happy
A lot of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should avoid them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel better!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling famished can truly bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
