Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

If you want to battle depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
