How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know green tea can help raise your mood also!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
