Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nutritious and good for you. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
