Foods That Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
