Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
