Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
