Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
