Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must keep away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
