Use Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are great at battling depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
