Foods That Make You Happy

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
