How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to avoid them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know it can help raise your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
