How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for overcoming a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can really make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
