Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you combat depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

If you wish to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can really help to better your mood. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
