Steps to make My Basic Stewed Taro Root Tumbles:
  1. Rinse and peel the taro root potatoes. The root potatoes are slippery when wet, so either drain well or blot off excess water.
  2. Since the root potatoes get slippery when peeling, it's best to hold them at the top and bottom, and peel lengthwise, then peel the ends last.
  3. After rinsing the root potatoes again, drain, then rub in salt (for boiling) to remove the starchiness.
  4. Add to boiling water as is, and boil for 4 to 5 minutes, remove scum that rises to the top, then rinse.
  5. Put the sauce and root potatoes in a pot, cover with a drop lid, and bring to a boil on high heat. Reduce to low to medium heat after boiling, then simmer (for about 10 to 20 minutes).
  6. Once they are tender enough to pierce with a toothpick, remove the lid, and heat on high flame until the sauce is reduced.

Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods as well!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
