How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
