Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nutritious and good for you. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat some eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
