Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are wonderful at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating some eggs to jolly up!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you wish to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
