Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. Some foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.
It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can really help to better your mood. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Test out these tips instead!
