Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to cheer up!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.
Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
